The 4 Key Values of Great Teams: Part 4

Updated: Jan 31, 2020

If you're not growing, you're dying. You've probably heard that before, but biologically it's true. The opposite of progression is regression. And you'll see your career, your team, and your company do one or the other.

These four key values we've been going through are the keys to ensure a constant growth trajectory, but the first three are simply the foundation. Believe it or not, you could be in a company that has lots of positivity, love, and accountability but still dying.

The key to growth is the final ingredient: Yearning

Yearning may seem like a funny word, and it's probably not one you use on a daily basis. But if you don't have and display this key ingredient on a daily basis, it can and eventually will lead to the downfall of your career, your team, and your company.

The opposite of yearning is complacency, and while curiosity may kill the cat, complacency kills mankind.

The dictionary definition of yearning: "Intense longing for something"

Words associated with yearning: hunger, thirst, passion, and ambition

You might see a word like ambition and ask, "well, isn't there a negative, potentially toxic side to ambition, and therefore yearning?"

Great question! Yes, there is. And that's why the first three, foundational pillars are SO critical to this recipe. And that's why they're in the order they're in.

Yearning is the antithesis to complacency, and the combination of positivity, love, and accountability are the safe guards against the negative side of the ambition coin.

But once the first three pillars are in place, yearning becomes the driving force behind unstoppable growth and progress for an organization, a team, and each member associated to it.
