We've set the stage with the first two pillars of what makes a team and an organization great.
There needs to be high levels of positivity, and there needs to be agape love. If you haven't read the first two posts, please go back and do so. The first two are foundational and vital to understanding these last two.
The third key ingredient to great teams is accountability.
As soon you as you read the word, you might have felt a negative emotion. Accountability is usually associated with something bad. It makes sense though, because being held accountable means you probably did something wrong.
But being held accountable and being accountable are two separate things. Don't get me wrong, you need both, but you need less of the former if you have more of the latter.
The reason why positivity and love are so foundational to accountability is this:
1) A positive attitude is the mindset you need to do the things you need to do in order to BE accountable
2) A positive mindset allows you to give constructive, helpful correction when one of your teammates is going off course
3) A team filled with individuals who love each other and put the company, the mission, and each other first, will be more accountable to each other
4) And a team filled with people who love each other will know that any course correction offered by a teammate is coming from a place of love for them and for the greater good of what they're collectively trying to accomplish
Without a mindset of positivity and an established culture of love for the company, mission, and one another, accountability is virtually impossible to expect
Positivity, love, and accountability... sounds like a great recipe for success! Yet, these three are the foundational pillars of great teams and organizations. There's still one more ingredient to cover. And this last piece is what truly separates the good from the exceptional.
