The 4 Key Values of Great Teams: Part 1

Updated: Jan 31, 2020

How many times do you go to bed on Sunday nights, dreading to go to work in the morning?

If you're one of those people, I encourage you to find something else to do. It would really suck to hate five-sevenths of your life, always waiting for the weekend.

It's an incredible thing to start your week off on a positive note, but it's even more wonderful being part of a team that exudes positivity.

I call positivity the cornerstone value for the other three that I'll describe in future posts, and it truly is the most important value any team can have. Without positivity on an individual, team, or company level, you'll see incredibly negative consequences result.

If being negative is so bad, then what are the benefits you should expect from being positive? Great question. Glad you asked!

1) Customer Satisfaction

No, I'm not just talking about the customers your business serves. If you work in an organization, then everyone around you should be seen as your customer. You don't work for a company so it can serve you. You work there to serve the business. And yes, your actual customers too. How easy is it to work with and serve other people when you're in a bad mood?

2) Increased Productivity

If you're that person who dreads Mondays, how much valuable work are you getting done without your boss hounding you? Enough said.

3) Innovation

This is probably the one that will surprise most people. The first two might seem obvious, but how can positivity lead to innovation? Another great question.

Negative people are focused on problems. Whether your personal problems or the problems in your business, negative people tend to be pessimistic.

A positive mindset doesn't dwell on what didn't work yesterday or how you've "never done this before." A positive mindset can see obstacles and have the soberness of thought to ask the question of "how can we solve this?"

Positive people don't stew over problems, they find the solutions to them. And it's finding solutions to unsolved problems that sparks innovation
